Burger Compress: Free, simple, and capable image and video compression software.
Getting started

Your first compression with Burger Compress

Import an image or video, choose a built-in preset, and check your output. A practical first-run guide before processing a whole batch.

THE SHORT VERSION

Try one representative file with Smart balanced first. Check the result before processing the rest of your batch.

What is Burger Compress software?

Burger Compress, also written as BurgerCompress, is free desktop software for image and video compression and media format conversion. Install the app to use it; your media does not need to be uploaded to a browser or cloud service.

The website currently offers a Windows installer. Baseline media capabilities ship with the app; hardware encoders are checked in the background and become available according to verified local support. Built-in presets help you start without learning encoder settings first.

1. Import a file

Drag an image or video into the app, or use the file picker. For your first run, choose a representative file: a detailed photograph, for example, or a video with sound and movement.

Check that the file appears in the task list and is selected. Before changing settings, check their scope so that a change intended for one file does not accidentally affect a whole batch.

2. Choose a preset and output settings

Start a compression task with Smart balanced, which balances quality, processing speed, and file size. Quality priority, Speed priority, and Size priority offer different starting points.

Check the output format and destination. Choose a format supported by the person or application receiving the file. If an option is unavailable, read the explanation in the app; a file extension alone does not establish output support.

3. Process and inspect the result

Start processing and follow the status in the task list. Once complete, open the output location and test the file in the viewer or player you actually intend to use.

  • Compare the source and output sizes against your upload or sharing requirements.
  • Zoom in on image text, edges, and details. For video, check motion, sound, and playback compatibility.
  • If the result is not right, adjust the settings and work from the original rather than recompressing the previous output.

Then batch-compress your images or videos

Once the sample looks right, import the remaining files. Check the selected scope before making batch changes. Different media types or formats may expose different options.

Review individual task results, not just overall progress. If a task fails, read its message before trying another verified format or adjusting the settings.

Does BurgerCompress upload files or extract ZIP archives?

Burger Compress processes images and videos on your computer. Signed-in personal preset sync is separate from media processing and does not upload the media itself.

It is not a ZIP or RAR archive utility. Use the image or video guide to reduce media file size; use an archive tool when you need to extract a file archive.
