Burger Compress: Free, simple, and capable image and video compression software.
Presets & advanced settings

From built-in presets to your own saved settings

Choose among four Burger Compress presets, adjust advanced settings after sign-in, and understand drafts, application scope, and personal templates.

THE SHORT VERSION

Built-in presets help you start quickly. Personal templates reuse settings you have already checked. Confirm the scope before applying or saving a draft.

Choose settings for the actual image or video goal

For a photo upload with a KB limit, check image target-size mode, units, and actual output. For video sharing, consider the container, codec, picture quality, and destination device together.

Verify a task result before saving the preset so that unsuitable settings do not become a repeated default.

Four presets, four priorities

Burger Compress provides built-in starting points for different priorities. No preset is best for every file. Start with Smart balanced and adjust after reviewing the output.

  • Smart balanced: balances quality, speed, and file size.
  • Quality priority: emphasizes detail and may take longer to encode.
  • Speed priority: emphasizes processing time.
  • Size priority: emphasizes smaller output; check that the quality is still acceptable.

Open advanced settings when needed

Personal templates and advanced template settings require sign-in. Follow the prompt if the app asks you to sign in; cached access is reflected by the local interface.

Begin with a built-in or personal template and change only what serves your goal. Examples include image quality, dimensions, and transparency, or video rate control, resolution, and encoding speed. Follow the capability explanations for unavailable options.

Editing, applying, and saving are different

Edits in template settings first stay in a draft. They do not immediately affect tasks. Check the current application scope before applying them.

  1. Start from a template close to your goal.
  2. Adjust the relevant parameters and check the selected task or batch scope.
  3. Use Apply settings to apply the draft to tasks in that scope.
  4. Use Save as new template for future reuse, and give it a recognizable name.

Manage your personal templates

Personal templates can be renamed, reordered, or deleted. Built-in presets stay available and cannot be deleted or reordered, so there is always a known starting point.

Personal templates can sync through your signed-in account. What syncs is the settings, not your media: image and video processing remains local. Availability on another computer depends on the media capabilities verified there.

Recheck when the destination changes

Image settings for a website may not suit printing. A codec that works in your player may not work for every recipient. Test a small sample when the source, destination, or device changes.

Templates reduce repeated setup; they do not replace output checks. Keep your originals and note the receiving platform's format, dimension, and size requirements before choosing a template.
